Job Overview:

As a Long Haul Truck Driver based in Calgary, Alberta, you will be tasked with transporting goods across long distances within Canada and occasionally to the U.S. This role is crucial for maintaining supply chains and ensuring timely delivery of freight. You’ll be responsible for operating large trucks, ensuring safety, and adhering to regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Driving and Operation:

    • Operate long-haul trucks (tractor-trailers) to transport goods across various provinces and occasionally into the U.S.
    • Ensure the truck is in good working order through regular pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections.
    • Drive in a safe and efficient manner, following all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Route Planning:

    • Utilize GPS and road maps to plan routes that minimize fuel consumption and travel time.
    • Adjust routes based on weather conditions, road closures, and other factors affecting travel.
  • Loading and Unloading:

    • Load and secure cargo using appropriate methods and equipment to prevent damage during transport.
    • Unload cargo at delivery points, ensuring accuracy and completeness of delivery.
  • Documentation:

    • Maintain and submit accurate logs of driving hours, mileage, and fuel consumption.
    • Complete all necessary paperwork, including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and inspection reports.
  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety regulations and industry standards, including hazardous materials handling if required.
    • Follow company policies and procedures regarding vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
  • Customer Service:

    • Interact professionally with clients and provide excellent customer service during deliveries.
    • Address and resolve any issues or concerns raised by customers promptly.

Requirements;

  • Licenses and Certifications:

    • Valid Class 1 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
    • Valid Medical Certificate and Drug Test.
    • Additional certifications for handling hazardous materials are a plus.
  • Skills:

    • Proficient in operating long-haul trucks and using GPS navigation systems.
    • Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and basic repair.
  • Personal Suitability:

    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
    • Reliable, punctual, and capable of managing long hours on the road.
    • Physical stamina to handle the demands of the job, including lifting and securing cargo.
